When the career ends. Me with myself.
It is worth preparing in advance that your landing in values and passions was soft. If you do not fully take care of your values in different areas of life, then at the end of your career path or when you can no longer go higher, with layoffs, you may have a surprise in retirement. Inappropriate care can lead to mental instability, and even depression or anxiety. Hmmmm ... it sounded strong. But let us have a look ...
We do not have to approach only retirement to check how much our life is consistent with our values and we realize ourselves in it. We can re-evaluate our lives several times, depending on what happens with us. And this is usually the case. Looking at our real needs, our dreams and what is important for us allows us to create a life in which not only work allows us to meet our potential, but we draw on the wealth of everything that is given to us, which we may not notice and is next to us and is just for take.
Using research and observation, psychology described the phases of human life and what changes occur with increasing age. At each subsequent stage of life, certain goals are transformed, our possibilities change, and old values are replaced by new ones, or they are reorganizing.
The more we become aware of ourselves, our changing needs and the possibilities of their implementation in harmony with the surrounding environment, the more we will be able to function in harmony and fulfillment.
Exercise
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't offer you exercises that can deepen your knowledge of yourself at this stage of your life. I invite you to draw a diagram for yourself - a circle that will represent different areas of your life.
Please name them your way, there may be fewer of them than in the example diagram, there may be more of them. Remember to define clearly what a given area of life means to you, e.g. what Finance or Emotions or Friends or Free Time mean to you. When you write them down, think about your values and the areas in which you live them. Enter them in the diagram appropriately assigning them to the names of areas. Give yourself time. This is not an exercise for quick 5-minute decisions.
Once you have completed the entire diagram - I invite you to analyze it answering the following questions:
How do you feel now?
You have probably already developed the conclusion from this exercise. It is very simple, but putting it into practice definitely requires work.
If your diagram contains very important values for you, which at the moment you are able to realize only in one area - it is worth looking at whether in other areas of your life you can make room for them and implement your potential.
If we do not secure this need in advance, then the external event "taking away" our given, important for us area of life also takes away the values on which we base and which gives us a sense of the meaning of life, the sense of what we do and give us a drive to our existence.
What we often forget and can help us a lot is the area that we can name "I" or "Relation with myself" or "Awareness who I am". On the run, we often forget to look at the area of life that is with us from birth to death. This area acts as a buffer that, taking the momentum of the external situation, can act soothing and protective, preventing the full destabilization of our internal system.
Therefore, I invite you to explore who you really are and what treasures are hidden in you that are not dependent on external conditions.
See you on the journey inside yourself.
